How do we know what's wrong?

  1. PCM Scan – We begin by scanning the vehicle’s Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to identify any misfires by cylinder.

  2. Compression Test – This test checks the engine’s ability to build pressure in each cylinder.

  3. Leakdown Test – We follow up with a leakdown test to determine if any air is leaking past the valves, confirming intake valve leakage.

If valve leakage is confirmed, the next step is to remove both cylinder heads and perform a full overhaul.

To access the cylinder heads, the cab must be removed from the frame—this is a major job that typically takes about three days of labour. Most shops outsource their cylinder head repair to third-party machine shops, which can add an additional week or more to the turnaround time.
