As another repair shop, we send our cylinder heads into Cetus for checking/repairs. Turn around times are quick, pricing is fair and Carl is great to deal with. We will continue to use them.

Staff were super friendly. Did the work on my van in the timeframe they said it would be done. On previous occasions, any mistakes were corrected without any fuss or added expense. Tammy and Fred treated me great. Has my recommendation

Cetus AutoPro Repair is a massive rip off!! I brought my truck in to get a misfiring plug replaced and they quoted me $980.00!! I obviously said no way, then went back and picked my truck up. I still had to pay $260.54 for their diagnosis. So I paid $260.54 for them to tell me what I already knew. All I can do now is tell everyone I know how horrible this place is.

Hi Dylan, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us here. Although we are very proud of what we do and stand behind our work 100% we know we are not perfect and we do not ever want our customers to feel this way. We assure you that our pricing is not a ripoff, it is representative of the high end and quality work we do, we are a small family owned business operating in Calgary for 39 years this year and have had thousands of happy customers all along the way. We are happy to explain our pricing to you or anyone interested in having a conversation just give us a call 403-235-2912. We would just like to point out a few things, first the numbers you shared in this review for this quote are inaccurate. We provided you a quote for a number of services, but the total of $980 you mention here was not only for 1 misfiring spark plug being switched. This was for 4 different services with the parts and labour included in these services. Below are the 4 services that were quoted: - 1) The diagnostic service we provided, which was your initial appointment determining why your vehicle was running rough at idle and that your check engine light was on. 2) Replacing all of the spark plugs. 3) Replacing the spark plug wires. 4) And an oil change for your vehicle. - Parts and labour for these 4 services came to a total of $991.00. As for the Diagnostic charge, you spoke with Fred our shop foreman over the phone. He is the cornerstone of our repair shop and has been with us for over 25 years. He is an all around expert when it comes to anything automotive. As with any diagnostic of this nature, Fred explained that there would be a diagnostic charge for determining that the spark plug misfiring was 100% the issue with your vehicle before we do any of the repairs. You agreed to this charge over the phone and we booked you an appointment solely for this diagnostic. We do not offer diagnostics for free. If you would like to discuss this further, or feel that we are misguided in this response please contact us at [email protected] or give us a call 403-235-2912, we would be happy to have a conversation and to hear more about your concerns and where we may have gone wrong. Thank you for taking the time to read through this response, we hope to hear from you and hope that we have the chance to turn this poor review and your experience around.

Great service from these guys, brought a couple of cylinder heads to get inspected and resurfaced. They were very efficient getting them done and back to me. Would recommend them to anyone looking to engine work done!

These guys are a wannabe machine shop. Super unprofessional staff and incompetent. If you bring your stuff here you will get it back in worse condition. Parts will be a mess and what you asked them to do will most likely be out of spec. Then they will argue about it after. This shop is incompetent and just a huge giant waist of time.

Took a block here for basic overbore and decking on a recommendation in an attempt to save time. I typically do my own overbore/hone and have a rigid stone hone, inside mic and everything else required. I delivered the block with pistons, pre measured with piston OD's and specified piston to wall clearance written on the box. I should have known there would be problems when I got a call questioning why my specified clearances were so tight, which were actually +50% larger than what the manufacturer of pistons it's self recommended.. needless to say I reconfirm my original clearances to them, go pick it up a couple weeks later. I measure piston and bore myself and largest bore is double my spec with about 30% variance largest to smallest. Shockingly the bores had little to no taper despite each one being a different diameter. It gets worse when I discover they have mounted the block in the fixture down the main bearing journals without any protective sleeve marring a groove into 4 out of 5 main bearing journals. I complain and take it back to their shop, they take the block into the back for a bit and come out claiming all bores measure fine and I must be measuring wrong, they claim the damage to entire main bearing journal must have been there before. Ultimately avoided all responsibility and did nothing to help. I spent a month of time and over $650 to turn a pristine block into trash and ended up just doing the work myself anyways after pulling and stripping a new donor block. Probably added a full year of delay and doubled the cost of what should have been a very basic build.

This happened a while ago but I was just thinking about it today and some people need to know about this. I had a 2004 Ford Explore Sport Trac with about 115,000Km on it and it needed a timing chain replacement (Ford was not going to cover it despite there being a recall, my vin was not covered). It is a engine out job and takes about 2 days and costs about $4500. After 2 days I called and was told that its not done yet. So I called again after a few more days and was told the same thing. It took 2 WEEKS! When I picked it up I was reassured the the mechanic said that the engine was in very good condition. Walking out to the truck I had a peek under and it looked like they put on a shiny new oil pan, It didn't look like my original, it looked new. I know because I often do my own work on my vehicles. A few weeks later I now have a rear main seal leak... This made me think of everything that transpired. They probably dropped my engine and didn't tell me about it. At the time I recently bought the truck for $10,000 and put a staggering $9000 into it within 9 months. Most of that is the timing chain job and transfer case. You can imagine that I am now done with this thing. Lesson learned is to never buy a ford v6 cologne engine, and never bring it to Cetus automotive.

Hi Thomas, Thank you for taking the time to leave your experience here. According to our records this work we did for you was not just a while ago. It was 14 years ago. Typically we would address all of these concerns but the thing is, some of our staff, management and ownership has changed since that long ago so we really cannot speak to this. The only facts we have is that this timing chain job was under $4000.00 back in 2010, and that we have no other visits, warranties or concerns documented on this specific vehicle. We do not feel it is fair for this 1STAR review to be left more than a decade after the fact. And we also do not feel it is fair to encourage others to never bring their vehicles to Cetus Automotive since our records show you have not been here since 2013 with a different vehicle. We are curious what it is you are looking for? We have tried to reach you by phone and have left you a voicemail looking to have a conversation and have heard nothing back yet. We will update this response if we do hear back from you. We are sorry if there was missed communication during this repair, we hope that you will consider giving us a call back to discuss the matter further and work together on a solution. Feel free to give us a call 403-235-2912 or e-mail us [email protected]
